Eastern Tiger Swallowtails (Black Butterflies) often rest with their wings fully spread, particularly if the sun is out. It is the state butterfly of Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina and Delaware. From the beginning stages of life, the caterpillar sits in disguise but if disturbed, rears its head and acts like an aggressive snake, extending its two red horns from its underside resembling a snake's tongue. While quiet, this fearsome disguise can frighten a curious bird or predator.
"Do not let the quiet face fool you….There is a little black butterfly in us all." (Nikki Tucker)
Losing my mother at the age of 28 was a devastating experience that had a profound and indefinite effect on my life. The phrase "From a caterpillar to a butterfly," illustrates the representation of change. As a symbol of transformation, the butterfly represents eternal life from its three stages of life: the caterpillar (birth), the chrysalis (death) and the butterfly (resurrection). The butterfly is indicative of the change that took place in my life. As a result of this experience, I was able to be resurrected to help others. Butterflies have a very short life span, which in turn reminds us that life is precious and short, and we should make changes when the opportunity arises. The Foundation has vowed to make a change by joining in my mother’s passion for helping children, as well as her fight against cancer. We will dedicate our time and efforts to improving the quality of life for those affected either directly or indirectly by cancer.
I also lost my Mother to cancer but at age 26...It was a hard time for me.At first I felt a numbing felling like it didn't happen. As the year went by I realized it wasn't a dream. My brother and I where at the semitary taking her flowers on her birhday and say a black butterfly come out of no where...the same way it came the same way it left.We believe it was my Mom saying thank you for the flowers. Now after stumbling upon this site there is no doubt in my mind and heart she is always with us. THEY are always with us in our hearts and in our minds. There for they still live and shall never die.I lost my Mom physically 11/1/2007 she was born 11/13/1944 and shall live forever as I'm sure that God can give you the will to go on each day of your life with your Mom in your heart for all eternity.May God bless you and your family
